Is the Kia GT concept actually going to production?

Will there be a 2018 Kia GT available in the U.S.?

Rumors have been flying for a few days now as apparent leaks are made about a potential 2018 Kia GT. The concept was shown back in 2011, the nothing but silence. Will this model be coming out, and if so will it even be available in the U.S. market? Nothing but rumors are surfacing at the moment, but we’re willing to take the time to revel in them. After all, a sports car is on the line.

How likely is there to be a production Kia GT?

What we have so far are “leaked” images of a model, which is being called the K8, but for the South Korean market. Well, that doesn’t look 100% hopeful for us. But consider this: Hyundai is rumored to potential produce the Genesis G70, and how could Kia resist the urge to compete?

Upcoming Models: Top 5 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Facts and Features

Absolutely nothing is official at this time, and it’s difficult to say if or when Kia will offer up a big reveal. The Detroit Auto Show starts up January 8th, and Kia has set up thecurveahead.net showing a countdown to the day. Words scroll along the top – “heart-pounding performance,” “head-turning design, “sleek sophistication” – as a blurred out performance car appears to race along the Nurburgring in the background.

Scroll below the countdown and you find “Episode 01,” a teaser video that shows racing footage along the track, but only from the perspective from within the cabin.

We’re promised a next episode, live webcast and gallery, all listed as “coming soon.” Count us as teased. So if it is a production model, which we aren’t entirely sure of, what are the rumors flying around? A standard four-cylinder is expected, but many enthusiasts are hoping for a 3.3-liter twin turbo V6, similar to what is rumored for the G70. If this is the case, the model could offer up to 365hp. We’d say the hype is well worth it, should this prove true. We’ve heard rumor of an eight-speed automatic transmission, too, which would mean smooth gear shifts along with a potent powertrain.

As we’ve said, the North American International Auto Show, previously known as the Detroit Auto Show, is when we expect the big reveal. Stay tuned here at the Garden Grove Kia Blog, as we’ll be sitting at the edge of our seats come mid-January.
